When Life Cuts the Fibre… Build a Bridge
So, the business park accidentally cut our fibre cable while building a parking lot.
No internet. No warning. Just vibes.
The repair quote? Over R20,000.
The timeline? Definitely not “today.”
So we did what any slightly sleep deprived IT team would do:
We ignored the trench… and built a bridge.
Using a couple of spare access points, we set up a wireless Layer 2 bridge between buildings. No rewiring, no reconfiguring—everything just worked like nothing happened.
Then bad electrics tried to ruin the party.
The fix? A UPS on the far end. Problem solved.
The Result
- Network restored
- No fibre repair needed
- Budget saved
- IT team quietly feeling like geniuses
Lesson learned:
Sometimes the best solution isn’t digging up the ground… it’s thinking above it.
